Ceilidh Gillis - Student Midwife

As a 4th-year student midwife at Aurora Midwifery, I am dedicated to supporting families through their unique journeys into parenthood. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Midwifery program at Mount Royal University, where I have gained invaluable hands-on experience working with diverse populations in a variety of settings.
I came into the world thanks to a midwife, so I grew up with a deep appreciation for the practice and the idea that birth is a part of life that should be celebrated and humanized. But my real journey to midwifery began when I witnessed a friend’s negative birthing experience as a teen. This inspired me to get curious around what a better model of care might look like. Initially I found doula work and started to pursue that, before I discovered midwifery is where my heart lives.
Originally from British Columbia, I spent most of my formative years there before my family and I moved to Nova Scotia when I was 18 – starting a new chapter on the other side of the country. My first hands-on experience with birth was helping my goats at home on our farm, which was a great introduction into how beautiful low intervention birth can be.
I have always been passionate about reproductive education and rights, often serving as a resource for friends with questions about their bodies and sexual health. As a queer individual and advocate for LGBTQ2S+ rights, I am especially passionate about supporting all types of families and ensuring inclusive care for all.
When I am not studying or attending births, I enjoy spending time by the water, gardening, reading terrible romance novels, and baking.
I am honoured to be part of such a significant time in the lives of families and am dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to the clients here at Aurora. Thank you for including me in your care and community.
