Meet the Midwives

Rebecca Poitras, RM

Rebecca PoitrasI am thrilled to be part of the first graduating class from the Bachelor of Midwifery Program at Mount Royal University!

A bit of history: I was “made in England”, born in Canada, and have lived in various parts of Alberta all my life. As a first-generation Canadian, I feel so fortunate to live in this beautiful country and cannot imagine making my home anywhere else. I have been married to my husband and best friend, Robin, for 13 years and we have three incredible children: Raina (10), Riel (8), and Ruby (7). My family is my whole world, and I have been humbled by the tremendous responsibility of motherhood.

It was through my own pregnancies and the births of my children that I discovered my passion for pregnancy, birth, women’s rights, women’s health, and my calling to the art and science of midwifery. After several career changes (dancer, camp cook, geographer), I now know that I will be fulfilled as I care for and help women through their most profound and transformative life experiences. I look forward to making genuine and meaningful connections with each and every woman that I work with.

My four years of midwifery education was both awe-inspiring and eye-opening. As a relatively young profession in Canada, it is so exciting to be involved in paving the future of midwifery as it becomes more and more recognized and legitimized every day. I am honoured to be working at Aurora Midwifery, and to continue to learn from and work with these amazing midwives who have dedicated their lives to this profession.

In my spare time I love to hike, ski, read, cook, crochet, listen to great music, or watch a good movie. As a family we love to do many outdoor activities together (skating, tobogganing, camping, biking) as well as attend folk music festivals and spend time in the mountains.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve the best birth experience possible! :)
